Diet for Hair Loss, A Good Way to Combat Hair Loss

September 27, 2010 · Posted in hair replacement · Comment

Aside from all the wonderful tips in hair loss prevention and all the remarkable or unbelievable hair restoration techniques possible today, still the best way to address or combat the problem of hair loss and baldness is probably to start it from even happening. The only way to do so is to maintain a good proper diet.

A good balance of fruits, vegetables and other proteins are all essential for achieving good hair health. These food products will supply the hair with the necessary vitamins and minerals that are also good for your entire body. Specific foods that are recommended for a regular basis are the following.

First, we must start off with the Omega-3 component. As a nutrient that is highly advertised in most tuna and canned fish products, Omega-3 serves an integral function in metabolism. This can be derived from fish products like salmon and it is really having some good impacts towards hair strengthening and scalp integrity. It is relatively advisable to add these types of dishes to your meal regularly in a week.

In this same connection, wheat products are also a must in the diet for they contain silica that hastens the absorption of all other nutrients. Some research firms also discovered that excessive amounts of vitamins like vitamin A can promote rapid hair loss. This is also true when one frequently eats sugar-rich, processed and fatty products. Hence, this is where the role of silica kicks in. It will help absorb all the extra vitamins, minerals and nutrients that the body takes in.

Furthermore, just as important as silica is biotin, a component chiefly made available by eating brown rice. Aside from preventing hair loss, this too can hinder the graying of one’s hair.

In the same likeness, gluten-rich products like oats especially when eaten in the morning can increase the rate of hair production. Oats have potassium, magnesium and a wealth of iron that can also help improve the general appearance of your hair.

As stated earlier, protein too has a vital role to play in hair health. And one of the better sources of this nutritious food component is in soy milk. This food product can aid in the making of hemoglobin that assists in oxygen transmission for all body cells. Protein, as a body-building component, greatly helps in the repair of cells and hairs are obviously not an exemption.

Lastly, most people already know that Vitamin C is a vital requirement to have a good or healthy skin and hair. Thus, eating lemons, oranges and other citrus fruits would be of great help. If you can’t take hold of such fruits, there are already many vitamin supplements marketed in most places worldwide.

Herbal Remedies For Hair Loss

September 26, 2010 · Posted in hair replacement · Comment

Hair loss problem is an increasing concern worldwide for both men and women. Statistically speaking at least 60% men under the age of 40 suffer from hair loss problems. Here in this article we are going to discuss this problem and review some of the most popular herbs which can help prevent hair loss and also make hair regrow.

What Causes Hair Loss?
Mostly the hair loss problem is associated with excessive production of androgenic hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Dihydrotestosterone binds itself to the hair follicles and prevents the follicles from extracting vital nutrients from the blood necessary for healhy hair. This results in gradual thinning and weakening of hair and finally they begin to fall off.

What Should Be Done To Combat This Condition?
The only thing that can be done is to decrease the level of dihydrotestosterone in the body, so that the hair follicles can work normally and keep the hair healthy and shining.

Herbs That Are Useful in Treating Hair Loss Problem
Herbs have been used for thousands of years to prevent hair loss and also to regrow lost hair. Let us see some of these herbs which are popular in treating this problem.

Saw Palmetto
This herb is usually used in treating an enlarged prostate but it has been also found useful in regrowing hair. Saw palmetto has been found to decrease levels of DHT in the body thus helping in improving the overall health condition of the hair follicles.

Gotu Kola
It has been found to increase blood circulation to the scalp area. It helps hair follicles extract vital nutrients from the blood thereby preventing hair loss and also helping hair regrowth.

Ginseng
This is widely used in herbal shampoos. It helps strengthen and nourish the hair.

So analyzing our overall study there is certainly hope and effective herbal remedies available to treat hair loss problems. Remember one thing- nails and hair always grows.

Study: Video Games Linked to Increasing Brain Power

September 25, 2010 · Posted in baldness · Comment
Ayinde O. Chase – AHN News Editor

Milan, Italy (AHN) – New research finds that playing video games may prepare your child to become a laparoscopic surgeon one day. Reorganization of the brain’s cortical network gives them an advantage not only in playing the games but also in performing other tasks requiring visual motor skills.

Lauren Sergio, associate professor in the Faculty of Health at York University said, “We tested how the skills learned from video game experience can transfer over to new tasks, rather than just looking at brain activity while the subject plays a video game.”

The study found that during the tasks the less experienced gamers were relying most on the parietal cortex (the brain area typically involved in hand-eye coordination), whereas the experienced gamers showed increased activity in the prefrontal cortex at the front of the brain.

The findings offer hope for future research into the problems experienced by Alzheimer’s patients, who struggle to complete the simplest visual motor tasks.

The study results in their entirety can be read published in the October 2010 issue of Elsevier’s Cortex.

PROVIDENCE, R.I.– Seventeen women and men, who just completed an arduous nine-week training program, graduated from the state Department of Corrections’ Correctional Officer Training Academy on Friday afternoon.

Tracey Zeckhausen, spokeswoman for the corrections department, said that five of the graduates will begin work at the Adult Correctional Institutions prison complex in Cranston on Sunday. The remaining 12 will report to work as other officers retire in the months ahead.

There are about 900 correctional officers serving the state.

Corrections Director Ashbel T. Wall II conducted the traditional “Inspection of the Graduates,” during the graduation ceremony that was held at Sapinsley Hall on the campus of Rhode Island College. Col. Brendan P. Doherty, superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police, served as keynote speaker.

The training program ran through the summer and included CPR certification, weapons qualification, defensive tactics and classroom instruction. The classroom instruction covered topics such as communications skills, weekly exams and how the law relates to corrections officers.

The graduates also had to appear before a formal interview panel, take a video and written exam and undergo a physical fitness test. In addition, prison officials conducted criminal background checks, medical reviews and psychological and drug tests.

Zeckhausen said that 15 men and 2 women comprise the 78th graduating class.
