Government Says Most People Getting Enough Vitamin D, Calcium
Washington, DC, United States (AHN) – Most Americans and Canadians are getting enough vitamin D and calcium in their daily diets, according to new federal guidelines.
The Institute of Medicine said that most people up to the age of 70 need no more than 600 international units of vitamin D per day to maintain health. People 71 years old and older may need as much as 800 IUs.
For most children ages 1 through 3, 700 milligrams of calcium a day meets their needs for bone health, and 1,000 milligrams a day is appropriate for most children ages 4 through 8. Adolescents ages 9 through 19 need no more than 1,300 milligrams daily.
For most adults ages 19 through 50 and for men until the age of 71, 1,000 milligrams covers their daily calcium needs, according to the guidelines.
Women starting at age 51 and both men and women age 71 and older need no more than 1,200 milligrams of calcium a day.
As for vitamin D, 600 international units per day meet the needs of almost all adults in Canada and the United States. People 71 and older may need as much as 800 IUs a day because of potential physical and behavioral changes brought on by age, according to the guidelines.
According to the Institute of Medicine, greater amounts of food fortification and the rising rates of supplements have increased the chances that people are getting too much vitamin D and calcium. Too much calcium raises the risk of kidney stones, and too much vitamin D may cause heart and kidney damage.

Resurgence of Bed Bugs Leads To Congressional Forum
Washington, DC, United States (AHN) – People seeking answers to combat the growing problem of bedbug infestations gathered at a Congressional forum on Thursday.
The recent resurgence in bedbugs means people have found bedbugs in both public and private areas including theaters, retail stores, office buildings, hotel rooms, apartments, homes and college dormitories.
A recent Rasmussen poll found that 20 percent of people had recently changed travel plans to avoid public places because of fear of bed bugs.
U.S. Reps. Don Young (R-AK) and G.K. Butterfield (D-NC) co-sponsored the “Congressional Don’t Let the Bed Bugs Bite Forum.” The forum provided an “opportunity to discuss current federal policies and initiatives of prevention and management,” Young said in a statement.
Noting that bedbugs are as likely to infest a five-star bed and breakfast as they are to invade a five-star hotel, Butterfield said the pests represent a public health issue as well as a threat to tourism and commerce in every state.
Butterfield and Young have introduced H.R. 2248, the Don’t Let the Bed Bugs Bite Act. The legislation would give the U.S. Secretary of Commerce authority to provide grants to help states inspect places for bedbugs. The grants would cover any area including private homes, hotels, schools and train stations.
In addition, the grants would cover pest management education and training to use the most effective prevention and eradication techniques.
Young spoke about an Alaskan elementary school that recently had to send students home early after bedbugs were found in several classrooms.
Participants at the forum included members of Congress, academic bed bug experts, the National Pest Management Association (NPMA), other industries and people who have experienced bed bug infestations.
Some 95 percent of professional pest management companies have encountered bed bug infestations in the past year, according to a 2010 survey of pest management firms by NPMA and the University of Kentucky.

Study: Two Out of Five Drivers Admit to Falling Asleep While Driving
Washington, D.C., United States (AHN) – Two out of every five drivers (41 percent) admitted in a recent study to having fallen asleep at the wheel at some point. Furthermore another one in ten says they’ve done so in the past year.
The results of the study conducted by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety found that more than a quarter of those surveyed admitted they got behind the wheel even though they were so tired that they had difficulty keeping their eyes open.
The findings of the study going public coincide with this week’s week’s Drowsy Driving Prevention Week, hosted by the National Sleep Foundation.
Driving while drowsy decreases awareness, slows reaction time and impairs judgment. Experts say sleepiness affects drivers just like drugs or alcohol contributing to the possibility of a crash.
New analysis of National Highway Traffic Safety Administration crash data estimates that about one in six (16.5 percent) deadly crashes, one in eight crashes resulting in occupant hospitalization and one in fourteen crashes in which a vehicle was towed involve a driver who is drowsy.

The Way to End Hair Loss
Hair loss solution
Hair loss is a natural phenomenon of the hair development phase. In fact, a person looses 40-60 hairs a day. Increase in the rate of falling hair becomes the major cause of baldness. Even though, there are numerous reasons for hair loss but in 95% of the cases, hair loss is due to Androgenetic Alopecia, often termed as Male or Female Pattern Hair Loss. This trouble of hair loss occurs frequently in males as compared to females, and this has been the major situation in United States.
Causes of hair loss:
There are numerous causes for hair loss. Some of the common causes of hair loss are mentioned below:
1. Hormonal imbalances are a major cause of hair loss. If your thyroid gland is overactive or less active then problems related to hair loss may occur.
2. Long term illness or a major surgery can be also the cause of hair loss.
3. Use of some medicines also results in hair loss and this type of hair loss may be either temporary or permanent. Some of the medicines that results in hair loss are anticoagulants, gout medicines, birth control pills, excessive use of vitamin A and antidepressants.
4. At last, hair loss may occur due to a basic disease such as diabetes or lupus.
Hair Loss Solution
Various hair loss solutions are available depending on the cause of hair loss. A doctor may be able to prescribe a better medicine if use of medicines is the cause of hair loss. Recognizing the type of hair loss problem is the first step towards hair loss solution. Next step is to treat the problem effectively either by using right type of medicines, rectifying hormone imbalances, etc.
At the present, two medications have been approved by the FDA, as a perfect hair loss solution. They are Propecia & Rogaine. Rogaine is a relevant solution that works by increasing the growth of hair follicle, whereas Propecia works by decreasing the growth of hormones [called Dihydro-Testosterone (DHT)], responsible for hair loss. The second type of medication i.e. Propecia is suggested only for men as it can have certain sexual side effects.
After going through an extensive investigation about different hair loss products, I learned about Revivogen, a natural product for prevention of hair loss. This product is very good for those who are in the early stages of hair loss and with the use of this product; they can regain their hair quickly. The most remarkable thing about Revivogen is that it is all-natural and has no side effects like other hair loss medications.
Summary:
Hair loss is a natural phenomenon of the hair development phase. In fact, a person looses 40-60 hairs a day. There are numerous causes for hair loss and various hair loss solutions are available depending on the cause of hair loss.
